WHOA. SOUTHERN LEAGUE CHAMPIONS.

We have heard nothing of our senior teams this season since our previous correspondent resigned - and yet so much has been going on via the National League where unfortunately we have been relegated, whilst three wins from four in the Southern showed more consistency than our more illustrious opponents.

The women`s events which were covered mainly by juniors and under 17s picked up an amazing twenty first places. Kissiwaa Mensah and Nneka Okoh claimed double success in the 100 and 200 whilst Nneka with Grace Tremelling took the long jump applauds. The high jump also gave us a full points tally through Zion Ateba and Rosie Townley, Zion 400 hurdles and Rosie 100 hurdles Molly Drane ran a PB in the steeplechase behind Hannah Bolton who put in a seasons best both having run the 800 metres earlier. Sienna Shipton achieved a PB when winning the 400m `B` race. Teagan Rayner also put in a seasons best to win the 1500 metres and there was another seasons best from Kiera Atkinson in the 5k event. In the throws Jessica and Maegan Hopkins took full points from the shot putt and discus. Jessica's shot putt effort of 14.08m was deemed to be best the performance from all the women's events. The relays at the end of the day saw CAC taking the 4 x 100 and 2nd in the 4 x 400m There were fewer wins amongst the men with a number of regular members missing through holidays and other commitments, Oneyeka Okoh won the 400 and in placing second in the 200m put in a PB. Joseph Grange in winning the steeplechase recorded a PB and had a season best in the 1500m for third place. Bradley Reed and Kristian Brown took the honours in the 110m hurdles. In the 800m Joseph Perry (3rd) and Gregory Martin (1st B string) both achieved personal best times. In the high jump Thomas Hewes had a seasons best of 2.10m which apart from a win claimed best best male performance of the day, for the second time this season. From a Chelmsford view point perhaps they may consider Luke Keteleers as there man of the match as he took part in no fewer than seven events to fill in for absent colleagues.

It is difficult to give a good account of a meeting when having only Power of 10 and the Leagues website for information. One hopes that a volunteer will come forward to take this on next season.

A number of our athletes attended the South of England Championships held at the Lee Valley Stadium with eight coming home with medals. The five star performance came from Jacob Hurrell for after placing third in his heat of the 1500 metres (4m 09.83s) provided our only gold during the two days of competition by taking the title with nearest opponent almost four seconds down in his wake as he set a time of 3m 59.92s for a new club record. The old record was held by John Archer dating back to 1962 which before the metric distances were adopted for UK athletics and thus the record had been set in a mile race and converted. Middle distance events also brought two other medals. Fred Ferman placed second in the under 13`s 800 metres in 2m 19.67s and Ezra Harrold took the bronze medal in the girls under 15 age group with 4m 39.49s in the 1500m. Other medals were gained via the track, throws and jump events. Sophie Catchpole having placed fourth in the 80mhurdles (12.46s) then proceeded to the 300m hurdles with 46.38s claimed third place. Sam Steadman meanwhile went for the 300m flat event and with 37.12s was another bronze medallist. Matilda Hewitt has been in great form during the season in the shot and hammer events but was unable to give of her best here placing 4th and 5th respectively but then took third place with the javelin with a pb of 33.16m. At the high jump Charlie Pyner was another below his best but with 1.75m still took third place in the under 15 boys class. Back to the track and Milana Thorpe was third in the under 15`s 75m hurdles with 11.97s after winning her heat in 11.85s. Worthy of note are athletes achieving personal bests, Harry Lee and Daniel Brown in the under 15 long jump, Thomas Carter and Joshua Eida from the 1500 metres, Ava King under 13`s 800 metres and Madison Poulter with the javelin.

Another huge win for our youngsters in the EYAL topping the seven hundred points mark thus making it five in a row. This was achieved with each age group on top spot, a rare occurrence. This bodes well for the final.... how many of the trophies can be won as it is usual to be for overall winners plus each age group?

At Basildon we start with the U13 girls scoring 107 points with next best Basildon on 73. We can not list all results but there were maximum points gained from six events. On the track the 800 metres saw Erin Kelly and Lily Sanford, the 1500 Ava King and Isabella Eida and the 70mhurdles Amy Hockey and Saya Saunders. The field events saw oUr throwers excelling. Olivia Mullineaux involved in shot, discus and javelin with backing from Francesca Hopper shot putt and discus and Saya Saunders in the javelin.

To the under 15 girls and a points tally of 125 saw them again heading Basildon with 89. Maximum points again from the 800m via Lottie Wilkin and Ezra Harrold, the 1500m with Daisy Stollery and Amelia Shipton. The hurdles again saw wins - with Chelsea Clark and Josephine Walsh. Chelsea also won the high jump and long jump. Another with three wins was Matilda Hewitt via shot, discus and hammer. Lily Frost was partner in the discus with Lucy Bulman, in the shot, Lucy also won the B string javelin with Madison Poulter winning the A string.

With the under 17 women points were close, Chelmsford 113 just edging ahead of Basildon 111 and Ipswich 102. Wins were sparse here - the 800m again saw a maximum via Sienna Shipton and Emma Cox but then we had only Emmie Fulker 200m, Skye Lake high jump and Mia Bowring javelin. So its not just the wins for all those contesting for points make such a difference.

The under 13 boys was another close battle with Basildon whose 100 points compared to our 110. Khaya Fakazi and Dominic Grant took full points in the 800m with the 1500m going our way via Fred Ferman and Oscar Stollery. Zachery Ikharebore picked up a double with the 100m and 200m, George Dixon won both hurdles and shot put whilst Motiejus Norkus recorded two`B`wins (high and Long jump)

Under 15 boys and a score of 125 saw us well ahead of Ipswich on 84. The 800m again provided uwith full points - Ben Smith and Charlie Ryde. Full points also from the hurdles - Daniel Brown and Harry Lee, the high jump - Charlie Pyner and Arsenii Handzi, the discus and shot putt with Jeremy Anderson together with Jack Staton (discus) and Daniel Brown (shot). Sam Steadman once again came up with his own double this time the 200 and 300m with Harry Dove picking up full points from the `B` string 100m and log jump .

The under 17 men saw us with 134 points ahead of Ipswich 115. Four events provided us with full points. The 1500m via Gregory Martin and Dylan Robins, the hurdles with Ben Negus and Dylan Nowell who also partnered Stephen Adesina in the high jump. The triple jump found both Kwasi Prakah-Asante and Morri Nash clear of the opposition. The 100m (Harry Marshall) and 800m (Jacob Hurrell) were also victors. Although the sprints provided fewer wins we came together well in the relays with wins in five of the categories. Over the season our accomplishment has to be put down not only to the winners but all the back up they have received - not forgetting the work of team managers and parents for encouragement.
