We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Chelmsford AC in partnership with Writtle University College have been granted a licence from UK Athletics to stage a physical athletics event. So this means we can go ahead with this years Miles of Miles but this year with the added twist that it will be held at the scenic grounds of Writtle University College see map in Chelmsford and not the usual track in Melbourne. This is due to the difficulties around staging it as a track event with all the new Health & Safety regulations resulting from the Covid-19 Pandemic.
This is UKA's Pilot Event 1 (in their words) so once again Chelmsford AC are the trailblazers for UK endurance running. Numbers are extremely restricted so enter now.
Of course there are still a lot of do's & don'ts involved, many of which on the face of it will appear Draconian but are only there to safe guard you and your nearest and dearest, so more than ever we're reliant on everyone attending to help us and be considerate in everything we ask please.
Please familiarise yourself with the Governments up-to date Covid-19 guidelines here.
All Race Organisers, Officials and Marshals are giving up their time voluntarily in order to lay on this event for our wonderful running community so we respectfully ask for you not to give them a hard time in what is already difficult event to stage.
We will issue more guidance in the coming days but here is an overview of how things will work.
The course is classified as 'multi terrain' consisting mostly of grass but interspersed with short stretches of tarmac. Where a natural pinch-point occurs we will have clearly marked no over-taking zones in order to maintain the necessary distance between runners. See Map
Each race will have 6 (max) competitors.
Age categories are as follows... U13, U15, U17, U20, Senior, 40+, 50+ in both male and female. Your age category for this event will be whatever category you would be in for this present track season. To protect our younger runners at least one Marshal will be visible to them as they go around the course at all times.
Pre-race course walks are not possible. A video of the course will be uploaded to this site soon in order for you to familiarise yourselves with the terrain.
Runners will be given a time that their race will start.
We will ask competitors to arrive a maximum of 30 minutes before their race start time for registration, after which they will be given a designated area to go to in order to warm up and ready themselves.
We will not have a safe bag drop area so would ask runners to bring minimal items with them and ask the people or person they are with to look after.
A race will start every 6 minutes. Failure to be at the start for your allotted race will result in a DNS (did not start)
We ask all athletes and their companions to depart straight after their race, following the designated One Way route back to the car park or campus exit if on foot. See Map
Results will be published on this site the following day or as soon as our kind volunteers can manage. Announcements will also be shared on our Facebook Page here
Results will also be published on the Power of 10 here
