Thank you for entering our Miles of Miles inc. the Essex AA 1 Mile Championships.

We are very much looking forward to seeing you all one Saturday where we have 16 action packed races.

For many of the younger athletes and maybe some of the older ones it will be their first experience of an athletics event so we are setting out below a guide to what to do and expect on the day..

1, Check your race time here

2, You will need to arrive at the stadium a minimum of 1 hour before your race start time.

3, Upon arrival head straight to the Registration area (see the image below) where you will be checked in and given your race numbers and souvenir t-shirt if you ordered one when entering. Please note your race numbers have to be fastened to the front and back of your vest/crop-top/t-shirt using safety pins. Make sure you pick up some of the give aways our sponsors Comms Express are providing... you will need these to make lots of noise to cheer on the other athletes whilst they are running.

4, You will need to report to the Call room (see the image below) a minimum of 10 minutes before your race is due to start. When it is time for your race our announcer will call your names out one by one for you to jog down to the start line so please make sure you wave to the crowd and smile for the cameras as you do so. Make sure you listen very carefully to all the instructions the officials tell you on the start line.

Please note if you are not on the start line when the race is due to start the race will start without you.

5, If you are eligible to compete in the Essex Championships ie you are in age groups U14 and above and meet the criteria set out here (U10 & U12 are not championship age groups) you MUST wear you official club vest/crop top, failure to do so will render your performance null and void in the championships (not Miles of Miles)

6, If you finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd in your race you will be awarded Miles of Miles medals immediately after you have crossed the finish line. Separate podium medal ceremonies will be held for the winners of the Essex Championships (U14 & above only) these will take place in-between the subsequent races where time permits.

7, If you are the fastest in you age category you will be awarded a £50 Amazon voucher provided by our Sponsor Comms Express, in some categories there is more than one race therefore the voucher will go to the fastest overall (not per race).

8, Lastly we want everyone to have fun and enjoy their day and support all the other athletes competing.

The weather is forecast (at time of writing) to be cloudy but very hot. We strongly advise you to use sunscreen and make sure you stay hydrated.

We have ice creams, cold drinks and snacks available to purchase from the snack hut and delicious freshly baked pizza available from Ciao's Pizza.

Cornell Cup

Bill Cornell was born and bred in Chelmsford and remains to this day pound for pound the best Mile athlete the club has ever had. Bill emigrated to the U.S. in the 1960"s where he became a University Athlete/Coach, in which time he was voted MVC of the year eight times and was a three time NCAA Div 1 All-American himself in the half mile & mile events. He also mentored 11 Olympians and 49 All-Americans.

Your club can now keep the Cup that bears his name for 12 months plus £1000 in prize money.

The 2nd and 3rd placed clubs will scoop £500 & £250 respectively

All you need to do is send us a message by clicking here and telling us you're in.

How the scoring works:

Each club will need to field a minimum of one athlete in the U14, U16 & U18 (both Boys & Girls) races plus one U20 (can be either M or F) and one Senior (can be either M or F) so a full team would be eight athletes. You can still compete for the Cup if you don't have the full eight required athletes but each category not contested will result in +8 Points.

Only your A string athlete can score in each race, therefore if your clubs athletes finish in 1st, 2nd & 3rd place you will score 1 point, if another clubs athlete finishes 4th they will score 2 points and so on.

And the club with the lowest score overall will be crowned winners.

If you have any questions regarding the scoring system click here.
