Primary School Cross Country Series
Supported by Athletes Elevated
at Hylands Park, Chelmsford
All races covered by UKAthletics Licence No CC26/1905
As the new Cross Country season nears its time for us to start the preparations for this seasons Primary Schools Cross Country Series for years 3,4,5 & 6 students.
With a hugely successful 25/26 season with a record number of students taking part we hope this year to be even bigger and better.
We are delighted to announce that we have a new sponsor for this seasons race series, Athletes Elevated.
Why is Athletes Elevated supporting us? That's simple Roland Weedon, the founder of the A.E. is an ex Chelmsford AC athlete. Roland joined the club as a youngster in 1973 as a high jumper then progressing on to 400m hurdles and then on to middle distance and was competing for us until 1984. After emigrating to the U.S. and starting up a very successful business "Essex Mortgages" Roland kept his ties with the club and along side his love for West Ham Utd, Chelmsford AC and of course the development of its athletes remains a passion of his to this day.
Entry is now open for this seasons League via the form below.
The race schedule for this season is as follows....
- Race 1 – Thursday 15th October 2026
- Race 2 – Thursday 12th November 2026
- Race 3 – Thursday 4th February 2027
- Race 4 – Thursday 11th March 2027
All races are fully licenced by England Athletics (see licence)
The League is FREE to enter and is open to all Primary Schools that wish to take part.
This season there will be an Individual and Team competition for both boys and girls in years 3, 4, 5 & 6.
- Individual competition – runners score points at each race based on their race position i.e. 1st place = 1 point,
2nd place = 2 points and so on. Athletes must compete in at least 3 out of the 4 races throughout the season to score an overall position with their best 3 results being added together and the lowest points total winning.
- Team Competition – schools will need at least 4 competitors in each race to gain a team score which consists of adding the 4 finishing positions together with the lowest total winning. The winning team will get 1 point, 2nd team 2 points and so on. Teams will need to compete in at least 3 out of the 4 races throughout the season to score an overall position with their best 3 points being added together and the lowest points total winning. (Please note you can run more then 4 athletes in each race should you wish).
In addition to the League races some athletes will be invited to attend the Chelmsford Junior Endurance Group that run on Tuesday and Friday evenings on the track at Chelmsford Sports & Athletics Centre. These sessions are run by Chelmsford AC Endurance Coach David Fewell who coached both our U13'S & U15 Girls teams to become the 2024 National Cross Country Champions (pictured below) a feat that has never been done before by a single coach. The Endurance Group is also a feeder in to Chelmsford AC.
Chelmsford AC have won team medals for the last 3 seasons at the National Cross Country Championships and the National Road Running Championships with most of these athletes coming through from the Junior groups.
